He was born in 1986 in Vancouver, Canada. He received his undergraduate education in Political Science at Sabancı University and his graduate education at Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus–Senftenberg. He holds a Ph.D. from Istanbul University and is an associate professor.

He has taught courses on foreign policy and political history at various universities. He is the author of four books and has many academic articles and newspaper columns.
